I am Nishat Parvez, a communication scholar, educator, and journalist currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Communication and Media Studies at the University of Oregon. My research explores the intersections of media, politics, gender, and religion—focusing particularly on informal civic discourse in Bangladesh, such as political conversations that unfold in everyday spaces like tea stalls.
I am on academic leave from my role as Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, where I have taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in media ethics, journalism, and development communication. Before entering academia, I worked as a newsroom editor at two major broadcast outlets in Bangladesh—Channel-i and Boishakhi TV—where I specialized in both international and sports news.
My work has been recognized with multiple awards and fellowships, including the ICA Top Student Paper Award and AEJMC MAC Research Grant. Through my scholarship, immersive storytelling (as a Snap AR Scholar), and cross-cultural media projects, I aim to challenge dominant narratives and foster more inclusive and socially aware media practices.
